Veil Layer
Definition
A specific stratum of the Veil's structural separator function. The Veil operates at multiple layers between distinct cycles, dimensions, and operating-fields; each Veil Layer is the specific gating-membrane between two adjacent layers of reality. The Veil Layer between material and aethereal cycles is the primary one the practitioner encounters at the threshold of death.
Literal meaning
One specific gating-membrane within the broader Veil structure. Where *the Veil* names the structural-separator-function as a whole, *Veil Layer* names a specific instance of that function. The cycle ladder includes multiple Veil Layers: between Anthropogenic and Guardian Cycles, between adjacent cycles within the Aethereal Cycles, between adjacent universes in the multiverse.
Esoteric meaning
Veil Layers are structurally graduated. The thinnest layers separate adjacent cycles within the same broad-cycle range; the thickest layers separate fundamentally different orders of existence (material from aethereal, individual universes within the multiverse). The practitioner's contemplative work crosses thinner layers more easily; the deepest crossings (the threshold of death, the Group Initiation into the Atūm Current) work with thicker layers under formal ritual conditions.
Allegorical meaning
Layers of fabric in a heavy curtain: each layer adds opacity, the curtain as a whole separates two rooms, and pulling back any one layer reveals the next without pulling back the entire curtain.
Extended meaning
Veil Layers operate by frequency-band differentiation. Each cycle has its frequency-range; the layer between two cycles is the structural-band where neither cycle's frequencies fully operate. Crossing the layer requires the practitioner's vibration to match the receiving cycle, which is the structural-mechanism the Veil Principle gates. The Pillar *Un'Teh* (Interdimensional Bridge) operates by establishing temporary bridges across specific Veil Layers when the practitioner's vibration permits. Solstice and equinox windows thin specific Veil Layers (particularly the planetary-cycle-related layers) for the duration of the cardinal-turn moment, which is why those windows are valued for ceremonial work.
